The programme

The session will open with a welcome introduction by Ioannis Fallas (CluBE), followed by an overview of FLEXIZYME’s value chain and circular economy approach presented by Annabel Serpico (ITENE).

The first technical session will focus on upstream processes and feedstock treatment, with contributions from Maria Victoria Ruiz-Mendez and Justo Jimenez (IG-CSIC). The discussion will then move to the midstream and downstream stages of the FLEXIZYME value chain, addressing biotechnological processes, enzyme engineering, and downstream processing through presentations by Mar Tronch (ITENE), Ognjen Pećanac (GECCO), and Matilde Rizza (UNIPI). The final session will explore the pathway towards industrial application, covering process design, scale-up, sustainability assessment, and final product development with insights from Gustavo Quillo (PDC), Zsófia Kádár (BBEPP), Lazaros Karaoglanoglou (NTUA), and Sergio Mastroianni (SYENSQO). The masterclass will also feature an intervention from the EU-funded project GoodByO, FLEXIZYME’s sister project, providing additional perspectives and insights on complementary research and innovation activities.
