ROELMI HPC’s Role in FLEXIZYME
In FLEXIZYME, ROELMI HPC takes the role of end user for the cosmetic validation of Fatty Amines (FAs) developed within the project. These bio-based FAs will be incorporated into cosmetic prototypes, particularly in hair care applications, with the aim of replacing palm-based derivatives.
ROELMI’s contribution covers a complete validation pathway:
- Safety testing of the new ingredients, focusing on cytotoxicity, eye and skin irritation, and biodegradability. All tests are conducted using non-animal methods such as reconstructed human tissues.
- Efficacy assessments in vitro to analyze mechanisms of action and determine the optimal percentage of FAs in formulations.
- Stability studies to monitor ingredient performance over time under varying temperature, light, and humidity conditions.
- Clinical trials on volunteers using finished product prototypes, confirming activity and assessing the sensorial performance of the formulations, directly followed in ROELMI’s formulation lab.
Through this rigorous validation, ROELMI HPC ensures that the FAs developed in FLEXIZYME can transition into safe, effective, and sustainable cosmetic applications, offering an environmentally responsible alternative for the personal care industry.
