On January 20, 2025, the FLEXIZYME consortium convened online for its 6-month General Assembly Meeting, marking a significant milestone in the project’s progression.

During the meeting, representatives from organization presented updates, shared challenges, and aligned strategies for the upcoming months. Here are some of the major highlights:
- The PDC team discussed advancements in the holistic bioreactor process design, focusing on overcoming key process limitations.
- The CSIC team detailed ongoing research into sustainable feedstock treatments, while RUG presented their computational platform for enzyme improvement, aiming to optimize reaction conditions. ITENE shared results from enzyme screening and characterization, identifying promising CARs and TAs for fatty amine synthesis.
- The UNIPI team reported on the development of downstream processing strategies, ensuring high product recovery rates for cosmetics, detergents, and fertilizers.
Looking Ahead
The next General Assembly Meeting is scheduled on-site in Athens in June 2025, hosted by NTUA. With first year milestone approaching, partners are intensifying efforts to consolidate their work.
